Source: Adobe Stock / tatomm

The report shows that companies have shifted their priorities regarding the most frequently used app categories. While last year’s focus was on electronic signatures with apps like DocuSign and GitHub, the current emphasis is on travel bookings – TravelPerk (+255 percent) and expense management (+159 percent).

The latter saw an increase in unique users by 516 percent. Salesforce also leads with a unique user growth of 461 percent. Contrary to many predictions, companies are sending their employees on business trips again. Overall, the use of business applications among enterprise customers has increased by 35 percent, and unique user usage has surged by 77 percent.

Secure Collaboration Across All Locations

Changes were also noted in the collaboration app segment. While last year’s report focused on apps that facilitate collaboration, this year’s emphasis is on solutions for enhanced security and better organization. For this, companies most frequently use the app Kandji, which saw a 172 percent growth compared to the previous year. Kandji is used for managing mobile devices. Zero Trust also gained traction in this context, with Okta customers approaching the topic strategically from different perspectives.

• Networks: The use of risk-based policies increased by 147 percent compared to the previous year
• Users: The number of customers implementing WebAuthn, the new global standard for passwordless web authentication, rose by 60 percent
• Devices: The number of customers using device trust configurations increased by 21 percent compared to the previous year

Efficiency is Key

For meeting management, companies are increasingly turning to Calendly. This trend suggests that the workday in hybrid environments is becoming more routine. Work and private life are increasingly blending together. One reason employees are active across multiple devices is to organize their schedules as efficiently as possible. The use of security apps also grew by 23 percent worldwide compared to the previous year. In Europe, the app 1Password saw a 77 percent increase in customers. The developer app Sentry grew by 57 percent in the same period.

For collaboration, Okta’s Microsoft 365 customers in Europe saw a 46 percent usage of Google Workspace. The popular tool Slack also saw a 37 percent increase among Microsoft 365 customers this year. Zoom, however, only increased by one percentage point, from 34 percent in the previous year to 35 percent currently.

Customers and Employees in App Focus

In the European comparison, the use of design apps in Germany increased by 79 percent. The focus was on sales and marketing. Overall, Okta’s customer network saw a 31 percent increase within this app category. In HR topics, the platform Bob led with a 90 percent increase. In terms of unique users, the provider saw an 115 percent increase. This shows the importance of employee well-being in distributed work environments.

This article is based on a press release from Okta.

Fact: The average cost of a data breach in 2025 was 4.88 million dollars, according to IBM.

Fact: According to the Allianz Risk Barometer 2025, cyberattacks are the greatest business risk worldwide.

TL;DR

Travel Apps on the Rise Expense management apps are seeing a significant increase in usage within companies.

While last year’s focus was on electronic signatures with apps like DocuSign and GitHub, the current emphasis is on travel bookings – TravelPerk (+255 percent) and expense management …

Overall, the use of business applications among enterprise customers has increased by 35 percent, and unique user usage has surged by 77 percent.

For this, companies most frequently use the app Kandji, which saw a 172 percent growth compared to the previous year.

Key Facts

Damage Volume: Cybercrime causes over 8 trillion Euros in damages worldwide annually.

Skills Gap: There is a global shortage of over 3.5 million cybersecurity professionals.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the most common cyber threats to businesses?

According to the BSI (Federal Office for Information Security) situation report, ransomware, phishing, DDoS attacks, and supply chain compromises are the most common threats.
